Men At Work

In the dusky early morn
Braving the bleak air
Having conquered sleep
And fear of high places
They set to work.

Clouded in mystery of trade and craft
Barely bundled against the chill
The artisans of construction
Heed their Master’s will
And architectual design.

Like fiddlers on the roof
They make their own music
With chisle, hammer, saw
Blow-torch, measuring-rod, and trowel
Moving rhythmically.

Plans and planes
Lines and squares and angles
Shapes and sizes
Blocks and wood piping….
Men at work.
